Born of Shadow and Flame
By Kathryn Alexandria
Born of Shadows and Flame was easily one of my favourite reads this month, and
from the very first chapter it had me hooked. The story throws you straight into a
world of danger, secrets, and high-stakes tension, and it never really lets go. The
pacing is especially strong — there’s always something happening, whether it’s a
quiet, uneasy moment or a burst of action — and the world-building feels rich without
ever slowing things down. It’s the kind of book where “just one more chapter” quickly
turns into staying up far later than you meant to.

What truly sets this novel apart, though, is its cast of characters, particularly Vera.
Her pain, resilience, and quiet determination feel deeply authentic, making her
journey both heartbreaking and inspiring to watch unfold. She isn’t just strong —
she’s human, flawed, and brave in a way that feels earned. The supporting
characters add so much warmth and charm, bringing humour, loyalty, and emotional
depth that make the story’s world feel alive and worth fighting for.
Even when the story ventures into darker and more intense territory, it never loses its
emotional core. Every victory feels hard-won, and every loss carries real weight,
which makes the stakes feel genuinely high. The balance between action, mystery,
and heartfelt moments is handled beautifully, keeping the tension strong while still
giving space for quieter, character-driven scenes to land. It’s a story that makes you
care — not just about what happens, but about who it happens to.
Kathryn Alexandria’s writing style is clear, engaging, and perfectly suited to this fast-
paced fantasy. The prose doesn’t try to be flashy for the sake of it; instead, it lets the
characters and story take centre stage, which makes everything feel more immersive
and emotionally grounded. By the time I reached the final pages, I was already eager
for the next instalments. Born of Shadows and Flame is a powerful, addictive read
and a standout pick for Book of the Month — Kathryn Alexandria is absolutely an author to watch.
